Tsutsue Kiln: Tall Karatsu Yunomi Cup

This striking Karatsuyaki tea cup is made by Tsutsue Kiln. 

The Korean Karatsu ceramic style was introduced by potters brought from the Joseon Dynasty during the Japanese invasions of Korea. It is thought to have been started in the 1580's/90s. Karasuyaki is made from a combination of black iron glaze and white straw ash glaze. 

These pieces are made by mikuriya Kunitoshi for Tsutuse Kiln. The reccomendation is to soak these cups in water overnight before first use to make the glaze more beautiful and bright.

  • Region: Made in Takeo, Saga Prefecture
  • Size: approx 9cm diameter | 10 cm height (sizes do vary with each piece)
  • Volume: approx 220ml
  • Please note: as these are handmade each piece is unique as such the colour, sizes and glaze may differ from the photos.
  • NOT DISHWASHER SAFE
